Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 1 p.m.
The 66th Northeast Los Angeles Holiday Parade will officially bring in the holiday season on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 1 p.m. The city's second oldest annual holiday parade offers has become a great attraction for entertainers and audience alike!
The list of participants has multiplied in the past two years, offering more marching bands, drill teams, dancers, musicians, floats, equestrian units, celebrities and community representatives.
As in years past, Santa Claus has already confirmed his visit to Northeast L.A. and will be accepting letters from children as part of the Holiday celebration.
This annual volunteer-organized community parade is being presented by the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce with collaboration from Los Angeles City Councilmen Ed Reyes (CD 1) and Jose Huizar (CD 14) as well as the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and numerous local businesses and organizations.

Meditation: A day @ cherry Park
I am confused and peace of mind at the same time. You also may be.
Yesterday I dusk watch Mary Queen sunset. Spectacular! For fifteen minutes I was at orange ORB stuck, sinking ever slowly over the horizon. That was the reassuring part.
I struggled with where I was though. I was at the foot of cherry. The Park between cherry & Junípero and ocean to Broadway, officially called "Bixby Park". Well, why? The most beautiful part of the Park is South of the ocean. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, waiting for marvelous views of Catalina, THUMS Islands, freighters and points beyond. Down to the beach, it is dropping a miracle of peace and joy. Children play indulge nature lovers, dogs romp, all beverages in the view.
In the morning, I saw a large group of people during a yoga class. I gotta believe it was free. Over one hundred kindred just many on bicycles appeared. A powerfully voiced woman quietly gave instruction to the mass. Different levels of expertise, all OK, with the world.
However: tranquil and this place is joyful, it's called "bluff Park". What The…? I thought that bluff Park on the other side of the Museum was long beach! In between there are also properties. You try to kid who are?
I call it "Cherry Park".
The Sun gracefully over the edge to sink, I noticed that children still played, still walkers went dogs, which still pound uphill. The beach scene was follow-up: "Hey, it's dark." You think we should put away the cooler and head home? "What's for dinner?" No mention of the show that goes over your shoulder.
Sirens ran. Lovers caresses. Some guys were trying several variations to break dancing, play their music and cell recordings from each other.
I missed it last Night…you would have loved it.
Wondering what's for dinner?

"Musicians perform at eleven unique venues ranging from auto shops to formal stages to historical buildings, and even a motel balcony along Colorado Boulevard."
Bonne Musique Zydeco stakes their claim each year on the balcony of the Eagle Rock Welcome Inn Motel.
"Bonne Musique Zydeco (BMZ), literally "good zydeco music," is a 6-member band specializing in the Creole music of Louisiana and east Texas. BMZ draws upon the style of traditional Cajun and Creole musicians, and the influences of the blues and New Orleans artists of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s to create a blend of music designed for dancing. Zydeco is a mix of rock ’n roll, blues, Caribbean and R&B music. But it’s not rock ’n roll or blues music, it’s zydeco. "

Posted by Brian BradyLos Angeles County 2011 VA loan limits dropped to $700,000, as did Orange county, The 2011 VA loan limits for Ventura County was set at $562.500. Riverside and San Bernandino counties' limits remain at $417,000. These loan limits are the maximum base mortgage amount for a zero-down VA home loan.
2011 FHA loan limits for Los Anegeles County are $729.750 as is Orange County. Riverside and San Bernandino Counties have an 2011 FHA loan limit of $500,000.
View the full list of 2011 VA loan limits for California counties.
VA mortgages allow veterans to borrow above the county loan limit if the buyer has a down payment. You can use this VA mortgage down payment requirement formula to calculate the amount needed. Los Angeles County homebuyers have found VA loans to be a particularly good option for loan amounts up to $1,000,000, because of the low down payment requirement, in 2009 and 2010.
VA loans do not require private mortgage insurance (PMI) because they are insured by the VA, which collects a funding fee from the buyer. This makes most VA loans a less expensive option than FHA or conventional loans, where PMI is required.

Posted by Cheryl Johnson7th Annual Halloween and Mourning Tours & Scary Movie Night
On Saturday and Sunday, October 23rd and 24th, experience Halloween in a whole new light at Heritage Square Museum's Seventh Annual Halloween and Mourning Tours.
Discover the very different traditions surrounding death and mourning as they were practiced 100 years ago. Mourning Tours are made possible thanks to the support of sponsors like METRO, Los Angeles Family Magazine, 100.3 The Sound, Pasadena Weekly and Citizen's Trust (a division of Citizens Bank). Additional support provided by Councilman Ed Reyes/CD1, Trader Joe's of South Pasadena, Superior Warehouse and Licha's Flowers.
This living history program puts you in the middle of a superstitious Victorian-era society where death was never far behind. Witness a funeral procession as they bury a loved one, visit a fortune teller, learn about hair jewelry and mourning attire and even join two men in arguing the merits of spirit photography! Also on hand for this year's festivities will be author Mark Daniel Wood. Mark is the Author of several titles, most recently Halloween Crafts-Eerily Elegant Décor (2001) and Create a Bewitched Fall-o-ween: 45 Projects for Decorating and Entertaining (2006). Mark will transform the 1887 John J. Ford residence into an authentic Victorian-esque haunted house. In so doing, he will demonstrate to visitors how to make period decorations. Mark will be on-hand to sign books.
On Sunday, October 24, the event adds family activities. Children can come in costume, make period crafts, receive a free pumpkin, listen to spooky stories by the San Gabriel Valley Storytellers and much more.
Also Sunday, Paranormal Investigators will share the results of their study of Heritage Square Museum. After all, for more than 40 years, people have claimed to hear, see and feel all manner of mysterious happenings at Heritage Square Museum. Whether it is the nature of the Victorian architecture, the historic furnishings and paintings on display or something all-together different, "ghost sightings" have occurred at the museum since its inception. On October 24th, those "sightings" will be denied...or confirmed!
Admission to the Halloween and Mourning tours are free for members, $10.00 for Adults, $8.00 for Seniors over 65, $5.00 for Children 6 to 12 years, and free for Children under 6. For more information about the program, call the museum offices from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at (323) 225-2700.
Due to periodic Caltrans Closures on the 110-Pasadena Frewway, we encourage everyone to take public transportation to the event. In fact, if you take the METRO GOLD LINE, we will even give you a free poster! If you are local, take your bicycle and we'll also give you a free poster.
Halloween and Mourning Movie Night to feature Body Snatcher (1945)
On the evening of Saturday, October 23, Heritage Square Museum will host its fourth annual Halloween and Mourning Movie Night. The evening is sponsored by Videotheque, the premier destination for classic and indie cinema.
Guests are invited to bring a picnic, blankets, chairs, and candy while enjoying classic scary movies at Heritage Square... if they dare. The scheduled feature is Body Snatcher, a 1945 horror classic starring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. The plot involves a ruthless doctor and his young prize student finding themselves continually harassed by a murderous supplier of illegal cadavers. Considered one of Boris Karloff's best performances, the film is based on a classic 1884 short story by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Guests are encouraged to wear warm clothing. Beverages and popcorn will be available for purchase. Admission to the Halloween and Mourning Movie Night is free for Museum members and $10.00 for the general public. The gates will open at 7 p.m. for picnics with the show starting at dusk.
Bring the kids for Safe Haven Trick or Treating
Bring your kids for more treats on Halloween inside the safe confines of the museum grounds. Children 1 to 12 years of age, with parent accompaniment, may come in costume and receive sweet treats from our costumed interpreters stationed at each building. Halloween treats will be available from 4 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Admission price is $5 for Adults and $2 for children 6 to 12. Children under 6 are free. Free for members.

NELA Live is a convergent blogging community of residents, activists, entreprenuers, educators, and artisians that live in and care deeply about Northeast Los Angeles, California, USA.
Thanks to the blogging efforts of this varied group of contributors, NELA liveoffers a lively, entertaining and unpredictable mix of opinions and commentary, art openings, local politics, and community events.
LA Animal ServicesThe historic, eclectic and diverse communities of Northeast Los Angeles grew from the gentle valley and hillsides along the Arroyo Seco, stretching in between Downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena.

The neighborhoods are now cross-cultural and dynamic, but much of their character can traced to Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Arts and Crafts Movement celebrated individualism, creativity and pride of craftsmanship as a rebuttal to the Industrial Revolution , and as a counterpoint to Victorian formality.
The spirit of the Arts and Crafts Movement continues today as a vital and thriving Arts Community rooted in Northeast Los Angeles.
